We take great pride in our expertise and high standard of service. Over three million people in this country wear contact lenses and enjoy the benefits of not needing to wear glasses. For example, those involved in sporting activities benefit particularly, although the primary motivation is convenience and appearance.

Most common vision problems can be corrected with contact lenses. Short-sight (myopia), long-sight (hyperopia), most astigmatism (an irregular shaped cornea) and presbyopia (focusing difficulty caused by the natural ageing process) are all problems that can be corrected with contact lenses

Most patients today wear soft lenses. These are typically replaced monthly, fortnightly or daily.

TYPES OF LENSES
Hard (PMMA)
They are very thin plastic discs held in place by the eye's natural tears. new materials have largely made these obsolete, although there are still people wearing these lenses, most have upgraded to Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses.
Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP)
These are made from pastics which allow oxygen through the lens material. They usually have a longer life span than soft contact lenses and some people find them easier to look after. RGP lenses are often prescribed for people who have astigmatism. they take a little longer to get used to but most regular wearers find them comfortable within a few weeks. These lenses are designed for full time wear rather than occasional wear.
Soft
90% of todays lenses fall into this category. They are made from modern water based materials. Many people enjoy the comfort of soft lenses which are easy to adapt to and fit comfortably and securely. There are now soft lenses to correct astigmatism and presbyopia. These lenses are ideally suited for occasional, part time or flexible wear.
Disposable Soft
Today it is possible to have a fresh pair of lenses at regular intervals for about the same cost as wearing traditional daily-wear lenses. After a prescribed time (usually monthly or fortnightly) the old lenses are simply thrown away and replaced with a new pair. The latest development in this is the introduction of "daily disposable" contact lenses. They are worn for a day and then thrown away, saving the need and expense of cleaning.
Tinted / Coloured
These offer the fun and flair of enhancing or even changing your eye colour without affecting what you see.

UV Protection
Contact lenses are now available that block out up to 90% of these harmful rays. The filter is imperceptable and it may improve comfort and accuracy of vision as an additional benefit.
Lens Care
Proper Lens care will keep lenses clean, comfortable and safe from harmful bacteria. There are three basic steps: daily cleaning, daily disinfecting and rinsing with weekly protein removal. The new "all in one" solutions can greatly simplify the process. The important thing is to use the products prescribed, as some products may not be suitable for you or are made for use with different types of lenses.
